Placenta Extract Gel (Placentrex) is a topical medication for the treatment of chronic non-healing wounds, such as burns, chronic ulcers, and diabetic wounds. Placenta Extract Gel Placentrex 20g

What does Placentrex Gel 20g contain?

The medication contains fresh human placenta extract (HPE) as its active ingredient. Human placenta contains a variety of growth factors, amino acids, peptides, nucleic acid, and hyaluronic acid. It also contains nitrogen compounds, collagen, and vitamin E, which promote collagen production and boost cellular synthesis.

How does Placentrex Gel 20g work?

Traditionally, human placenta extract is known for its rejuvenating and revitalizing property. With its bioactive and anti-inflammatory components, HPE stimulates cell renewal and cell regeneration. Thus, it  has been historically used as a postsurgical dressing to reduce scars and wounds. Its function in cell repair has earned its role as an anti-aging formula in preventing loss of collagen from the skin, enhancing skin elasticity, and giving one’s skin a fresh and youthful look.

HPE has antiseptic and antimicrobial action, preventing growth of microorganisms in the wound. This antimicrobial property prevents secondary infection, promotes faster healing, and helps form healthy skin.

Its wound healing properties are derived from its ability to effect growth factors needed in the early and late phases of wound healing. HPE decreases inflammation, thereby slowing down the cells’ damage. It increases blood supply in tissues and enhances regeneration and recovery of the tissue. It produces adequate granulation tissue formation and improves the tensile strength of the wound, thus facilitating healing.

Who cannot take Placentrex Gel 20g?

Do not use this if you are allergic to human placenta or any of its ingredients and antibiotics, namely gentamicin, vancomycin, or amphotericin B.

How should you take Placentrex Gel 20g?

Apply Placentrex gel once or twice daily as directed by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. This medication is for external use only.

Wash your hands before and after use unless the hands are the affected area. Clean and dry the affected area before applying the gel. Take a small amount on the fingertip and apply as a thin layer on the area or spread onto a sterile dressing to apply on the affected area as prescribed by your doctor. Avoid contact of the product with the nose, mouth or eyes. If required, secure with bandage or adhesive plaster or as directed by the doctor. If the product comes into contact with your eyes, rinse your eyes with water immediately and seek medical attention if irritation persists.

Do not stop applying the gel even if you start feeling better without consulting your doctor. It takes time to heal chronic wounds and scars. Results can be seen after two weeks of use.

If you are using another topical medication, allot at least three hours in between application.

What if you miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Placentrex Gel, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

What if you take too much?

This medication is unlikely to harm you if you apply too much, but contact your doctor if you experience symptoms.

When are the side effects of Placentrex Gel?

Placentrex gel is generally safe and well-tolerated if used in the recommended dose and frequency. Some of the common side effects include stinging and burning sensation. They are mild and do not require medical attention. However, if you experience any unusual symptoms or allergies, talk to your doctor.
